Why did it take me so long to make this t-shirt?

So I started this t-shirt at least 2 years ago and by started I mean, I bought the pattern (downloaded actually as I had to have it immediately) and acquired 2 charity shop t-shirts to refashion.  And then nothing.  Fabric and pattern sat in a bag, somehow migrated up to the attic and waited for me to find then again.  And that happened on Tuesday.

Apologies for the really bad photo, it is a very grey rainy day here.  So I traced it out and cut it out (that was fun as the pattern says you need 1.5m of fabric and I had two not massive t-shirts) and sewed it up yesterday.

In hindsight I probably would have been better off testing this pattern out with regular fabric rather than trying to refashion two too small t-shirts, but we live and learn.  The fabric I used for the body, should have been a little drapier, the cowl just doesn't drape.  But I actually prefer it without a cowl.  The shawl should have been cut from a double layer of fabric and folded in half, but I just didn't have enough fabric.  So it is cut from a single layer and the front edge is hemmed and would probably drape much better if sewn as intended.

I don't know how I actually managed to line up the striped between the sleeves and the shawl collar, it was completely unintentional, a fluke if you will.  However, there was absolutely no way the sleeves were going to fit into the armhole, hence the puffy sleeves.

This is a simple pattern to make (the foibles of jersey fabric not with standing) and I will definitely make it again, although I try to remove the drape of the cowl all together and reduce the size of the sleeves so they actually fit.  So I really don't know why it too me so very long to make.

Panto Pics

Treasure Island - The Panto

So I'll start with the most embarrassing picture first (that is one of me), I'm the one on the left. I made my shirt and waistcoat, I also have a green bodice, but sadly no picture. I wish I had a better picture of Long John Silver's frock coat. I also made him a shirt and cropped some old trousers to make Britches.

Captain Smollett in his finery, frock coat, waistcoat, frilly shirt and britches. I even made the buckles for his shoes.

This is a strange action shot from when we sang "In the Navy", but a good shot of the costumes, I pretty much made everything you can see.

All the bodices were reversible, including Molly's on the far left whose whole costume was reversible.

In the green and purple is "Dot". Everything of hers was dotty, the skirt as you can see, the bodice is purple with white dots, even the blouse's sleeves have tiny navy dots, that no one could even see.

Brian was a riot of colour, this wonderful ensemble was a combination of a hospital curtain and a duvet cover.

And last but by no means least "Captain Flint". This was so much work, but for three thrifted sheets it really does look great. The feet were in fact my husband's Toad slippers.

So the final laundry list of costumes made:

8 Blouses

7 Skirts

7 Bodices

5 Shirts

5 Waistcoats

4 Frock coats

4 Trousers cropped

1 Top

1 Apron

1 Pantomime Dame

and 1 Parrot

and proof that I am completely nuts.

This is where the blog goes schizophrenic...

...and I start posting about craft and stuff.  I am an irregular poster over at Wardrobe Refashion and now that I have here to prattle on about things as well, I will hopefully post more often.

This is a bag I have just made for my lovely Mother in Law; made from a pair of jeans and big enough to hold a heck of a lot.  I'm still a novice when it comes to applique, but I like how it turned out and I hope she does as well.

Blogger and me may fall out about positioning images!  I now realise why my other half does mostly textual blogs, trying to get an image where YOU want it to go is a nightmare.
